what is CPT??

Current procedural terminology (cpt) code is a medical code set. It is used to report medical, surgical, and diagnostic procedures and services to entities such as physicians and health insurance companies.
CPT has a trademark and maintained by american medical association. 

CPT codes are used universally to file claims for physician payment. those whoa person or an organization wish to this cpt content need a license. 
Each cpt code has five characters; maybe numeric or alphanumeric which depends on cpt code category. there are 394 code changes in cpt code set, including 248 new codes; 71 deletions and 75 revisions. the centers for Medicare & Medicaid services offers a free search for RVU for every Cpt code. and those users can also request a cpt data file license from the AMA(American medical association) to easily import codes and description into exiting claims and medical billing systems.

CPT editorial panel is responsible for maintaining  the CPT code set, the AMA board revise, update, and modify CPT codes , descriptors, rules and guidelines. and that panel composed of 17 members. 

The cpt study provides some documentation of the degree to which nurses perform the same services and procedures for which physicians are being paid. the ICD code sets also contain procedure codes , only used in the inpatient setting.
